The Stage is Set for a Sunday Finale

Saturday brought with it another exciting day at the Canada Day Cup at the Sensplex. Action kicked off bright and early at 9:15 AM, and continued all day long. We had a great variety of high scoring games and some tight ones, even needing a shootout to decide who got three points.

What better way to end the day than some pivotal matchups in tournaments’ final round-robin games, ultimately deciding who was in and who was out. Following a very exciting round-robin all of the semi-finals and/or finals have been set.

Tomorrow morning will come quickly for players who will go to sleep tonight dreaming of winning a tournament championship tomorrow. Some teams will have to play two games to get there, while other squads have earned a trip straight to the finals. No matter the road that these teams take, nothing will come easy, as there is a lot of hockey left to play. Remember that you can check out playoff matchups on the "schedule" tab on this site, and we will see you tomorrow at the Sensplex!

To all the teams heading home, the Canada Day Cup and the entire staff at the Bell Sensplex would like to thank you for your participation at this year’s 7th Annual Canada Day Cup.  It was an absolute pleasure to spend a weekend among such incredible talents!  We hope you enjoyed your stay in Ottawa during the Canada 150 celebrations, and please be safe in your travels home.  We look forward to hosting you all again next year!

A Thrilling Day One is in the Books

Could there be a better way to spend the the long weekend than to participate in the 7th annual Canada Day Cup? The 14 teams who traveled to Ottawa this weekend certainly thought not!  This three day tournament features teams from the Novice and Atom divisions, coming from the far Atlantic to Norther Quebec and Rockford Illinois!

Now that Friday is in the books, each team in the tournament has played two games, firmly making their mark on the standings. With two more games for all teams on Saturday, the playoff dream is still very much alive for everyone at the tournament. Fans at the Bell Sensplex certainly have a lot of good hockey to look forward to, as day one was packed with close contests throughout.

Action will begin again bright and early, as the CIHA 2008 are set to battle the Cree Selects, in the Novice division. By the time the sun sets tomorrow night, several teams will have sealed their fates, in the playoff rounds.

After a long busy day at the rink, be sure to get some rest tonight, as we prepare for the 150th Canada Day and some intense hockey match-ups!
